What to consider when manufacturing post-consumer recycled yarn?

Until recently, the end-of-life phase of garments has not been taken into account in clothing design. Products were designed to meet aesthetic and functional characteristics, and for this very reason, they made end-of-life sorting and recycling of garments difficult.

The design challenge has always been one of the main barriers to achieving a circular supply chain. Today, there are still many limitations to designing products with textile waste. Therefore, companies have made a shift in product design, so that the final product can be made from recycled fibres, thus making use of recycled yarn, and being more flexible in composition and design.

There is also a lack of awareness of the importance of correct sorting and classification of garments. In order to guarantee a good quality of shredded fibres it is important that there is a good sorting of post-consumer material. At Vilarrasa, thanks to continuous innovation in technology and the experience acquired over the years in the concept of recycled fibres, we have been able to lead projects with a high percentage of post-consumer fibre.

This results in a post-consumer recycled yarn with a high quality finish to meet the needs of all the applications for which these yarns are intended.
