Types of recycled raw material to make yarn

The value of a product to the consumer is mainly determined by the attributes of the product and the way it has been manufactured and the quality of the material from which it is made.

En Vilarrasa siempre hemos tenido claro que la calidad de la materia prima es clave en la elaboración de nuestros hilos, ¿ pero cuál es la mejor?

There is no single answer to this question, each manufacturer will use the material that best suits their production process and the yarn they will make. For us, the first and indispensable thing is to be clear about the final use of the yarn, understanding what weaving will be done with it will allow us to identify the yarn to be manufactured and the best raw materials to be used.

Therefore, it is clear that there is no single answer, there are as many as there are types of fabrics, uses and manufacturers.

The raw material for making recycled yarn is textile waste and there are an infinite number of fabrics and fibres. All fabrics can be recycled, but this process cannot be repeated continuously, as the fibres are reduced in length during the recycling process.

The selection of the textile waste is mainly done by considering the fibres with which it is woven. It is very important to try to ensure that the textile waste has as few fibres as possible and be clear about the percentage of each of these fibres in the fabric, to ensure that the quality of the recycled yarn will be suitable for its final use.

Throughout our history at Vilarrasa we have manufactured recycled yarns for a wide variety of customers all over the world, for different textile products, made with a wide variety of fibres.

The fibres we have historically worked with most have been recycled cotton and polyester, sourcing textile waste from all over the world, working with our trusted suppliers. Our network of suppliers is very large and it is essential that this is the case, since for the manufacture of a cotton and polyester yarn we use on average more than four types of raw material, from different suppliers.

Other fibres we also work with are viscose, acrylic, polyamide and more recently many natural fibres such as linen, hemp or jute.

Our recommendation if you manufacture textile products with recycled yarns or are thinking of doing so, is to contact the Vilarrasa team, we are at your disposal to advise you and identify the best recycled yarn for your product.
